Here’s what to do when an earthquake strikes.


So far, significant earthquakes have happened in 13 US states in 2019. We have some bad news and some good news about that.

The bad news: the United States Geological Survey (USGS) says earthquake prediction is currently impossible and won’t happen anytime soon. The good news: there are steps you can take to stay safe before, during, and after an earthquake.

According to the USGS, nearly 500,000 detectable earthquakes happen around the world each year. 100,000 can be felt, and 100 cause damage.

Even if you don’t live in a state affected by earthquakes, you could travel to one soon. Here’s what to do to make it through a damaging earthquake.
