Rock Island Trail

The Rock Island Trail is a 37-mile stretch of pathways winding through Central Illinois. The trail offers several points of access from its beginning in the rural area of Toulon (about 45 minutes outside of Peoria) all the way to Peoria’s riverfront.

Constructed from an abandoned railroad system, the trail travels through urban areas, residential communities, farmland, and forest parks. A large portion of the trail passes directly through Peoria and features bike repair stations, air pumps, access to parks, and parking areas.

Kartville

This hidden gem in West Peoria will celebrate its 56th year of operation this summer season. Kartville offers family fun with go-karts, off-road ATVs, batting cages, mini-golf, bumper boats, and more.

The park is open in the spring, summer, and fall (weather permitting). The cost of admission is low, and operating hours range from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Rockin’ P Public Riding Ranch

Located along Route 98 just outside of Pekin, the Rockin' P Public Riding Ranch offers a truly unique outdoor experience. With 1,100 acres of trails located within McNaughton Park, the ranch offers guided horseback rides for groups, hayrack rides, and pony rides for kids.

The friendly staff is there to help you whether you are a first-time rider or more experienced. The park usually hosts fun events throughout the summer, as well.

Peoria Riverfront

Whether you want to eat, shop, relax, or exercise, the Peoria Riverfront has something for you. Here, you’ll find a constant rotation of events and entertainment, including concerts.

You have your pick of dining options ranging from casual cafés to upscale eateries. The Riverfront Market is open every weekend and features locally sourced produce, craft vendors, art, and live music. Paved walkways overlook the river’s edge and offer great views and opportunities to exercise.

Merlot and a Masterpiece

Enjoy a night out at this art studio located in downtown Bloomington, just about 40 minutes outside of Pekin. Merlot and a Masterpiece offers two-hour painting classes in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

You can join a class on your own, grab a few friends, or plan a party for a larger group. Participants are welcome to bring wine (or any beverage of their choice) to sip during the class.

Each class is hosted by a local artist, and step-by-step instructions are given to ensure you go home with a masterpiece.
