From warehouse, to underwriter, to now — learn more about our CEO!
One of the reasons many employees love working at Pekin Insurance is the accessibility and relatability they have to our Executive Team members. The culture here means that when you walk through the hallway and see a top leader, they will stop to say hello to you. They also take the time to greet new employees in orientation and get to know them a little better. How many other companies can say the same?
When you hear employees chatting with Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer Scott Martin, the most common questions he receives are “How did you get started at Pekin Insurance?” and “What excites you most about the future of Pekin Insurance?” Scott has actually spent the majority of his career here and began as an underwriter trainee after responding to an ad in the newspaper. As far as the future goes, we have lots of changes happening at Pekin Insurance, and Scott’s favorite part is the way the company is embracing the changes needed in order to be successful in the future.
To show how relatable Scott is to our employees, he was gracious enough to share some fun facts about himself so that we can get to know him a little better!
What was the very first job you ever had?
I worked in a warehouse and loaded trucks and cleaned the floors, among other things.
What’s your favorite menu item in the onsite café?
What is your favorite app on your phone right now and why?
Right now it is an app called ICG Training. The app syncs to the bike I ride in my spin class and tells me the distance, calories burned, etc.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always thought it would be cool to play in a rock band and still do! My son, Andrew, played in a band after he graduated from college. I had to live that dream through him!
What makes our culture unique, and how do we protect it?
We do a great job of providing a fulfilling experience for our employees in many different ways. We want our employees to feel empowered with a sense of purpose, opportunity, well-being, gratitude, and leadership. Pekin Insurance has really evolved over the past few years, and our culture is making many positive changes that impact our employees and customers.
What is something you wish employees knew about you?
That I truly care about our employees’ well-being.
Having strong leaders is very important to the culture and success of an organization, and we are very fortunate at Pekin Insurance to have Scott Martin leading our future! Not only does he embrace change, but he genuinely cares about the employees and makes every decision with their best interest at heart.
